Happy 1 Year Anniversary to Your Best Just Got Better: Working Smarter, Thinking Bigger, Making More
One year ago today, my husband, Jason’s book was released. It’s a wild story how it all came to be. So unbelievable that you would say, “Oh come on… that sort of thing doesn’t really happen…” if you saw it in a movie!
It took only 18 days from the moment he met the publisher to having a signed contract with a 5 figure advance. Then it was 11 months until the actual hard cover book hit the shelves! He did this without an agent or insider contact in the publishing industry. So how did he do it, if he didn’t have special connections or privileges?
- Building his network.
- And a lot of hard work.
What does that mean exactly? He introduced himself to new people. He followed up with them. He prepared. He worked on his book proposal before he had a connection, so it would be ready to send as soon as he did meet the right person. He kept trying even when other publishers lingered. (Sometimes no answer is worse than hearing “no”. At least when someone says, “No, we’re not interested.” You can move on. Ask someone new. He got lucky.
I’ve learned about building your own business from Jason in a way that books or classes never could. You can tell, I’m crazy-proud of him and his accomplishments. I watch him work after presenting 8 hour seminars, he tells me he gets up at 4:30 am most days to write before going to the gym. So he can meet me at 8 am at the Coffee Roasters.
So today, on this one year anniversary for his book, 102 5-star reviews on Amazon, and full schedule of book presentations, we celebrate.
On April 6, Jason is scheduled to talk at the upcoming Ojai Wordfest about how he got his book deal. If you’ve ever thought about writing your own book, but thought you couldn’t, you’re invited.
